Lived In Me: Wellness Day for Survivors of Violence
As part of Mental Health Awareness Month, Skye Alexandra House hosted “Lived In Me”—a deeply restorative wellness day on May 17, 2024, in Croydon, dedicated to supporting women and girls who have experienced domestic and sexual violence. The event was carefully curated to offer a safe and healing environment where survivors could connect, reflect, and begin or continue their wellness journey.
This intimate gathering, limited to 40 participants, marked another step in Skye Alexandra House’s commitment to providing trauma-informed support spaces, expanding on its growing network of healing events and community initiatives.
A Day of Movement, Mindfulness, and Creative Expression
The day began with a grounding pilates session, encouraging participants to reconnect with their bodies in a gentle and empowering way. Over afternoon tea, attendees shared conversation and poetry—fostering connection and creating space for vulnerability and strength to co-exist.
The experience culminated in a therapeutic art session, facilitated by Charlie Henson from The First Floor Place, where survivors were invited to express their stories and emotions through creative expression. A licensed therapist was also available throughout the day, offering support for those who needed a private space for reflection or guidance.
With a few joyful surprises woven in throughout the day, “Lived In Me” offered a meaningful balance of healing, creativity, and community.
Looking Ahead
“Lived In Me” is part of a broader and growing support movement led by Skye Alexandra House, dedicated to the mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing of survivors. The success of this event reinforces the need for ongoing, accessible wellness opportunities that centre lived experiences and foster healing.
